Legal fights don’t always have to be fought in court. If the father genuinely wants custody, he should work on all the other aspects too apart from a court battle.

There are different ways he can prove himself as a good father who can take care of the child and is eligible for winning child custody.

1. Be realistic

A father is also a human being. He is not a superhero who can do everything at once. While fighting for custody, a father should showcase the things he is capable of pulling off. For instance, if he is not financially stable, he shouldn’t make statements about it. Instead, he should work on other aspects to prove that he can be a very good parent.

2. Have a plan in place

One of the first things to do in a child custody battle is to hire a family lawyer who can help you to prepare a plan for courtroom statements. Being prepared in advance is the best thing possible. You can interact with a lawyer regarding possible questions coming from a judge and prepare answers accordingly. Regarding money matters, you should be ready with all the documents to showcase your financial stability.

3. Child support payments

This could be the most critical aspect of a child custody battle. You should never stop payments regarding child support. If you haven’t thought of this, think and act now. These payments will work as a credibility booster for you and reinforce the trust of the judge and court regarding your commitment to a child’s better life.

4. No criminal background

Your involvement in criminal activities can reduce your chances of a child custody win. In this scenario, a court won’t even think of providing joint custody. You have to stay away from any criminal offences to fight child custody.

5. Stay involved in the child’s life

This is not considered to be a strategy to follow while preparing for a child custody fight. This is the fundamental responsibility of every parent. Starting from kindergarten to high school education, they should invest time and resources to connect with children and be an involved parent in day-to-day activities. These activities include:

  • Attending parents teachers meeting
  • Review progress report
  • Checking progress by interaction with teachers
  • Helping them with homework
  • Be aware of their best friends
  • Knowing their future aspirations and motivating them to achieve their goals.

6. Talk to other parents

This could be one of the best strategies while fighting for child custody. You can talk with other parents in your community who have experienced a similar situation of child custody battle. They can offer great insights on what to do and what not to do. They can suggest some tips to follow before appearing in court.

Also, learning from someone’s experience can be very beneficial in the long run.

In nutshell, instead of making it an ego battle, consider this as an important matter for you and your child’s life.
